Politecnico di Torino is launching a new advanced training program dedicated to one of the most innovative technology fields of recent years: Bitcoin and the decentralised infrastructure that underpins it. The Executive Master “Bitcoin: technology and protocols” is a postgraduate program designed to provide advanced skills in software development, cryptography and the protocols at the core of the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Developed in collaboration with the Plan ₿ Foundation in Lugano, the program is aimed at recent graduates and professionals with a background in computer science, engineering or the technical sciences who want to specialise in a fast-growing field with strong career prospects.

Beyond the cryptocurrency: Bitcoin as computer science

Often associated exclusively with the idea of digital currency, Bitcoin is in fact a complex set of technologies: distributed networks, cryptographic protocols, peer-to-peer systems, consensus mechanisms and open-source software infrastructure.

The Executive Master was created precisely to explore these technical aspects in depth, training professionals able to understand and build solutions within the Bitcoin ecosystem. The program covers the theoretical foundations of the protocol, software architectures and the tools needed to contribute concretely to the development of decentralised applications and services.

A path through theory, software development and practical applications

The program combines theoretical foundations and hands-on activities, with particular focus on:

  • applied cryptography and the principles behind Bitcoin;
  • blockchain architecture and distributed protocols;
  • software development within the Bitcoin open-source ecosystem;
  • the Lightning Network and second-layer technologies;
  • designing and building technology solutions based on Bitcoin protocols.

The approach is designed for those who already have software development skills and want to gain an advanced specialisation in a field marked by strong technological innovation.

An international partnership for a growing field

The partnership with the Plan ₿ Foundation in Lugano strengthens the international dimension of the project, connecting academia with one of Europe's most active organisations in Bitcoin ecosystem education and development.

The goal is to build a bridge between university, research and industry, preparing professionals able to take part in complex technology projects and contribute to the evolution of decentralised digital infrastructure.

Course information

The Executive Master “Bitcoin: technology and protocols” will run from October 2026 to May 2027 in a blended part-time format, combining in-person activities at the Politecnico di Torino campus with online sessions.

Key details:

  • Duration: 100 hours
  • Language: Italian
  • Format: blended part-time
  • Location: Turin
  • Tuition: €2,000
  • Scientific coordination: Prof. Danilo Bazzanella
  • Application deadline: 30 September 2026, 2:00 PM

Training the engineers of the digital future

With this new Executive Master, Politecnico di Torino expands its offering in emerging technologies, providing a program focused not on the speculative use of Bitcoin, but on an engineering-level understanding of the protocols and infrastructure that make it possible.

In a context where cybersecurity, distributed systems and decentralised networks play an increasingly strategic role, specialist skills in Bitcoin and related technologies represent a new frontier for developers, engineers and digital innovation professionals.
